At the end of July, Grib visited Beijing, China, for the 7th Overseas Talent Entrepreneurship Conference. Earlier in June, the company had taken part in a qualifying round in Helsinki at Maria01 Startup hub. The qualifications were co-organized by Comb+. Out of all the qualifying companies Grib was selected as a runner up and would join a host of Startups worldwide to the final competition. We had 5 days of meeting local Venture Capitalists, municipal decision-makers and of course other Startups.
The weather was hot, the food was good and the people were really nice. Each day we had a good mix of organized program and free time to use either for sights or to use efficiently for work and networking.
Even though Grib wasn’t invited as a finalist in the competition, the trip proved useful as many discussion openings were made with potential partners to help Grib enter the Chinese market.
Most importantly, talking with other Startup founders and people from local companies, helped in understanding some of the key aspects, and what to look for in partners, when considering opening up a business in this vast market.
This one week trip was just the first scratch as Grib sent another troop to scout out Shanghai and the Greater Bay Area in the following weeks. It will be interesting to see what the visit to Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Macau will bring.
